March Meeting Highlights:
Show-and-Tell & Speaker Helen Moyes

Exploring New Techniques with Guest Speaker Helen Moyes

Our March meeting was a real treat for anyone curious about mixed media and textile art. We were delighted to welcome Helen Moyes, a talented artist and maker whose passion for experimenting with fabrics, fibres, and unusual materials left us feeling inspired and eager to try something new.

Helen shared a wide range of her beautiful creations, each one combining different techniques to striking effect. From decorative hangings to practical items, every piece told a story of creativity and joyful exploration.

She introduced us to materials and methods that were new to many in the room—names like Tyvek, Lutradur, and Brusho sparked curiosity and a few raised eyebrows! Helen also spoke about using paint, heat tools, and layering techniques in ways that might sound a bit daunting at first, but the results were truly stunning.

One of the highlights of the evening was getting to see and handle Helen’s sample pieces up close. Being able to feel the textures and see the detail in person really brought her talk to life. It was a great reminder of how powerful hands-on experience can be when learning something new.

What really stood out was Helen’s enthusiasm for discovery. Her joy in experimenting and combining different techniques was infectious, and it reminded us all that there are endless ways to play, learn, and grow in our own creative journeys.

Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or just starting out, Helen’s talk was packed with ideas and inspiration for thinking outside the quilting box!
