Lisa Birkett - Quilts for the Longest Day
Providing comfort through quilts for veterans
Join us for a moving and inspiring evening with Lisa Birkett, who will be talking about Quilts for the Longest Day; a charitable project providing handmade quilts for veterans.
The project began in 2024 to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, with an ambitious goal of creating eighty single-bed quilts to donate to veterans. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, that target was not only met but exceeded (with over one hundred quilts completed), and the project has continued to grow from there.
Lisa will share the story behind the quilts, the people involved, and the powerful impact that a handmade quilt can have on those who have served. This talk will particularly resonate with anyone who has family members currently serving, or who have served in the armed forces, as well as those who believe in the comfort and connection that handmade textiles can bring.
This promises to be a thoughtful, heartfelt evening celebrating community, generosity, and the quiet power of making.
